Sudhir Saha (Major Sudhir Saha)
To whom the meaning of life is going ahead, and further ahead. The name of such a devoted workman is Sudhir Saha, widely known as Major Sudhir Saha. This famous man of present days, born on 30th April 1957 at a remote village, namely Shikari Para under Nawabganj police station in Dhaka district. For his exceptional brilliancy, perceptive quality and boldness at the childhood, local people used to call him, `daroga, judge’ etc. surname. But he used to keep mum. Attention of family members also started giving attention to this boy of middle class family when they found him topping in every class at school. Otherwise, after his birth when his father heard that the number four new comer of his family was a male boy and, before seeing him remarked throw him out as he was a boy and not a girl, because he did not desire the fourth baby would be a son and not a daughter. The whim of his father, perhaps vanished, when he found that the newcomer was a very good student. Unfortunately, Sudhir did not enjoy the fondness of father as he lost his father at the very tender age. Crossing the surroundings of poverty, this boy very successfully crossed the door frame of TKM High School of Shikari Para and got admission in Dhaka College. Thereafter, while in Dhaka University as student he kept himself engaged in different activities. Gradually he successfully crossed the hurdles of LLB (Hons.), LLM and got his name registered as member of Bangladesh Bar Council for practice as an Advocate. On a fine morning, started moving around at Dhaka court premises, dressed in traditional black coat.
Though this recently qualified and young licensee got the scope to roam around court premises but pouring money in pocket did not start. On the other hand this recently married young man had to shoulder the responsibilities to maintain family. He was really perplexed. He started law practice as junior Advocate under Senior Advocate Mr. Mahtab Uddin Ahmed. Within very short span of time, senior Advocate Mr. Mahtab sensed the smartness and workability of his recently engaged junior and reposed some additional tasks to him. Even then, the road to earn money in his pocket through the learned senior was not smooth to meet the minimum need for the family. In contrary, the urge was not only for pecuniary benefit, but was also the urge of soul. He was not the person to keep himself confined in the arena of Judge Court. Desire to start law practice in High Court Division of Supreme Court was harping in his mind. Senior Mr. Mahtab was a successful and prominent Lawyer of the Judge Court but very seldom he used to go to High Court. One day, suddenly he got a chance to get introduced with the then lawyer Mr. Zillur Rahman (in course of time he was the Honorable President of peoples Republic of Bangladesh) in connection with a litigation who advised young Advocate Sudhir Saha to start practice in High court. A new step emerged. Sudhir Saha knocked the door of the then renowned Lawyer Mr. S.R. Paul. Very senior and successful lawyers were in queue to become junior members of Mr. S. R. Paul’s law chamber. But very easily Sudhir Saha got the entrance on recommendation of Mr. Chitta Ranjan Saha of Muktodhara, the head of famous publication house. Now the endeavors started in double ways, one day in the premises of High Court and other day in Judge Court. Thus the periphery of career was widened but finance remained that limited. Even then, days were passing. But, it was little difficult to continue for unlimited tenure. His mother had strong desire to cherish in mind that her son would plead a case standing in front of judges very smartly and would see/hear it but the desire of her son was something different.
As he got married without the knowledge of his kith and kins, in similar way he applied for job in both civil and Army. After successfully meeting required formalities of both organizations, he was selected for both the places, one in civil as Magistrate and the other as commissioned officer in the rank of Second Lieutenant in Army’s Judge Advocate General Department. Both the jobs were lucrative in context of new job criteria of relevant time. In his own equation, considered job in Army would be befitting for him. Considering salary and allied facilities he preferred for himself the job in the Army. He kept in mind that being a member of minority community, common people will appreciate it in positive angles. He joined in Army and successfully served there for ten years. In addition to the job in the Judge Advocate General Department, he was also entrusted in other sides. During these ten years, other than conducting Court Martial duties in different formations of the Army, seconded to Bangladesh Rifles and Anti-corruption department. Because of some instances of mal-treatment, which hurt him, he decided to leave the coveted job of Army with reputation and materialized it. He also felt that he was not fit to remain confined in typical type of job and its bindings. Thus, the word `retired’ decorated at the end of his name and position changed to Major (Retired) Sudhir Saha.
Thus, switched back to `Black Coat’ started roaming in the Court-yard of Judiciary. His thirst for new venture was always working in his mind and initiated a new horizon of advocacy. With the advice and support of former Chief Justice Mr. Kemal Uddin Hossain, Retired Justice Mr. Debesh Bhattacharjee and renowned legal expert Mr. Gazi Shamsur Rahman, a Law firm namely `Law & Law’ established for consultancy law practice. In this field and initiative, Mr. Chitta Ranjan Saha of Muktodhara also extended his favourable support and help. Here also the hurdles and culture of mal-political system. The concentration of renowned and reputed personalities was not positively liked by the then Government. This situation and hurdle at his each step compelled him to take new decision.
After one year of voluntary resignation, in the year 1993, he sailed for Canada with his family, consisting of wife Ms. Kalyani Sudhir, elder daughter Prithula Prosun and younger daughter Promiti Prosun for settling there permanently. Initially he landed in Montreal and subsequently shifted to Toronto and settled there permanently with family. When the blessings pours from the Almighty and intention is honest and rigid, who obstructs his advancement. Major Sudhir knocked the doors of few immigration law and consultancy firms, managed the opportunity to join and work in a very reputed and established immigration law firm at Toronto, namely Johnsen & Makenjee. By dint of his firm determination and with blessings of Mr. Makenjee, the head of the firms, within one year, in the year 1994, established his own Immigration Law Consultancy Firm, namely ILCB, both in Canada and Bangladesh. Within short span of time ILCB became the most reliable and dependable Immigration law consultancy firm to migrate to Canada. Attending and supervising activities and performance of both the offices, he used to visit both places in regular intervals and thus passed over twenty five years. Other than Bangladesh and Canada, Major Sudhir visited USA, UK, German, Belgium, Italy, Cyprus, India, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, France, Indonesia, Greece etc. for the purpose of business.
